Singtel Trifactor Triathlon (Sprint Distance)

Race Report for Singtel Trifactor Triathlon (Sprint Distance)

Saver of the Race!

This is my first ever Triathlon in my life and for someone who have just started running last Decemeber, this is really exciting for me.

Being the appointed pickup boy, my race started early as 5am.

Breakfast - 2 packet of Quakers Oat Biscuit, 1 Banana, 1 packet of Gel

Started the race at 9.05am

Wille, Hsien Ming, Shah
SWIM
Being the first time I participate, I think the organiser made it right after the Trifactor Run. We were put in wave of smaller groups to initate the swim. Shah was telling me that there will be loads of kicking and overlapping during the swim but I experience quite little of it (Lucky me...) Well, there are kicking actually but minimal but I must admit I kicked too... but oh well, that is how it goes for swimming.

Swimming is something that I find I'm the weakest. Don't ask me why but yeah that's how it is. Following Shah's advice i took a right side way and off I went into the water. Swimming my first 100m was a struggle as people are trying to be ahead of one another. I tried and avoid... well not that bad actually. Next 500m seems to be never ending Haha... Thank goodness for me, given the heavy rain the day before, the water was pretty calm and not choppy at all. Good for newbies like me. Well, it's also good to experience choppy water and feel it. At 750m, i came out of the water and started running to my transition area.

Posing for the camera. The guy behind me happens to be my cousin's friend

BIKE

Strangely, this is something that I am comfortable and confident at. Probably due to the amount of training that i have been doing. Thanks to training kakis Shah and Weihao.

Ok, my inexperience in transition area have caused me to lose time. Entering the transition area after the swim, i went to look for my bike.

Firstly, i went to the wrong lane. Prior before the race, I did not pay special attention to the bike post number that my bike is parked at. I just briefly "remembered' where it is.

Secondly, i forgot which section my bike is at. Again, that is being complacent.

Lesson learnt.

Exiting from the BIKE OUT, i mounted the bike and off i went. I managed to maintain a speed on 30-31km/h for the ride. Again, racing for the first time, people bypassed me really fast. I learned, never to hog lanes, overtake whenever possible and also to practice proper race ethics. Generally, the participants of this race are quite co-operative. Just say "On Your Right" and they will give way.

When I reached the end point, I dismounted the bike and ran towards the BIKE IN AND CRAP! i could not find my bike post and bike section... See, inexperience has shown again... LOL

A lesson to learn for me.

RUN
After my parking the bike, i began my run and DRATS! my calf started to cramp. But I just had to carry on with the run real slow. This is also to adjust my breathing so that i will not jepordise the technique. Running is totally fine for me just that the cramp lasted though approximately 3km.
Running to the finishing point.

 End race photo in Transition

Well this photo is pretty obvious

Final Group Shot

RESULTS
Swim (750m) - 17.33min
Bike (20km) - 43.31min
Run (5km) - 35:47min
Total - 1hr 36min

Overall Reviews
  • Well organised
  • Sufficient Volunteers
  • ICED WATER with REAL ICE (Any organiser that provides this will always get my vote)
  • Sponsor photo boards could be in better condition (Bad Branding for them ~ Ok occupational hazard)

P/S: To the organisers, If I am the sponsor, I would be very angry with the photo booth branding boards. All of them were coming and dropping out.
If you are on Google Alerts GREAT! if not will drop you a message on Facebook.
